Gran Casso
2006 Belgian Warmblood

Picture
Gran Casso is a 2006 chestnut Belgian Warmblood  with a nice mix of jumper and dressage lines. He was provisionally approved with the BWP and RPSI in August of 2009 with very good marks on both his gaits and in jumping. In 2006, he was the National Reserve Champion colt with the BWP and again, as a two year old was the National Reserve Champion in the two year old futurity. He has an incredible mind and has a beautiful, lofty trot, a balanced, uphill canter and huge, expressive walk. He has been the easiest horse to work around and most people don't even realize he is a stallion - he is so well behaved. I think he will pass on this amateur friendly temperament yet he has the athletic ability to excel. He will be competing in dressage and is being prepared for the young horse classes.

Gran Casso is by the BWP approved hanoverian stallion Fal Turro who has competed through preliminary eventing and has schooled through 3rd level dressage and level 6 jumpers. Fal Turro is by the imported German stallion, Walldorf who won his stallion testing in Germany with incredibly high marks for gaits. Gran Casso's dam is by Galant who competed in dressage in Florida and schooled up to Prix St. Georges before his death. Galant is by the incredible sire, Aram who sired the 2000 Olympic Gold Medal Show Jumper. Aram is by the KWPN stallion of the century, Nimmerdor.

Gran Casso was started under saddle in spring of 2009 and has had a great year. He competed in the materiale classes with scores up to 80.5%! He also competed in hand and was 2009 Region 9 Reserve Champion Colt. In 2010 he was Region 9 Champion Stallion! At six, he he schooling 3rd level.

His first foal was born in May of 2009 and we couldn't be more pleased. Jypsy Rose wowed the judges at her BWP Keuring, scoring an 83%, earning her premium status and Site Champion. She competed in hand and won her 2009 fillies class both times out, qualified for the Region 9 Filly Championship and ended up third among a very competitive group of fillies. In 2010 she was Region 9 Reserve Champion Filly! She is elegant, yet powerful and we are excited to see what the future brings for this incredible filly.

Pedigree

Gran Casso is by Fal Turro WW, a 2000 Hanoverian Stallion currently standing at Borderline Farm in Michigan. Fal Turro is currently competing in the 3'9" amateur jumper classes with owner/rider, Jennifer Drott Hammond. Fal Turro completed his stallion requirements with only 2.5 months in the event arena. Prior to that, he had no training in this discipline, showing his amazing rideability and trainability.

Fal Turro is by Walldorf. Imported to the U.S. in 1995, Walldorf is by Watzmann who produced Walzerkonig, Olympic winner in Seoul. Walldorf was 1st out of 26 in his stallion testing. All three basic paces were given a grade above 9.0. Jumping was rated 8.0. Total score: 149.26 "Double helping of quality under saddle: courageous jumping with exceptionally calm disposition and beautifully unfolding movements in dressage". Walldorf was trained to imtermediate level dressage, and by 1990 he was already the second most successful sire of dressage horses in his age group. Walldorf was the personification of grace and dignity. He had the "look of eagles", which he maintained into his old age. Until the end, his movement was breathtaking to behold and we were honored to know him.

Gran Casso's paternal damsire was EM Very Best, a hanoverian mare from Germany that won every mare performance test she was entered. Grand Dam Sire, Varus especially lovely type, impressive and full of vitality. Big outline though very together, endowed with lots of muscle. Very gifted in dressage, outstanding in jumping. First class basic paces. Varus is by Vollkorn xx who was famed for siring easy to ride, willing and capable performance horses. He had 248 offspring competing in dressage and 191 in show jumping. Many Olympic jumpers carrried his name in their bloodlines.

Gran Casso's maternal damsire, Galant was trained through Prix St. Georges dressage and consistently scored "10s" on his medium trots. Galant is by Aram, who sired 2000 Olympic Silver Medal Show Jumper, De Sjiem. In 2001, Aram was listed as #4 on the WBFSH list of jumping sires.

Aram is by the legendary "stallion of the century", Nimmerdor. Nimmerdor was an international show jumper himself but is also known as an incredible sire of sporthorses throughout the world.
