Wow, last week was really crazy!! Not once did I have time  to plug my laptop in and update the website. Martin and I left around 4pm last Sunday afternoon. We drove through the night stopping many times at rest stops and truck stops to offer Gran Casso water and make sure he had hay. He travelled like a pro. We arrived at our temporary home in Versailles, KY after 19.5 hours on the road. Gran Casso settled in really well.

In the evening, we met up with my parents, Bob & Karin, and headed west to Louisville for a sunset tour of Churchill Downs. It was really a neat experience. We toured the museum and even did a race simulator! We were able to see the jockeys locker room and the clubhouse. We took our picture with an authentic Kentucky Derby trophy and then headed back to the museum where we met and took our picture with Ron Turcott, Secretariat's jockey!

Tuesday was the team dressage competition. The gold medal was won by The Neterhlands, the silver by Great Britain and the Bronze medal was won by Germany. After the competition, I schooled Gran Casso while Martin coached me. I wasn't sure how he would be after his long trip and the fact that he was stuck in a stall most of the day. At home he is used to lots of turnout but he was really great. Very relaxed.  Wednesday was the individual competition in the Grand Prix Special. This was a really fun day and it was cool to see the judges marks during the test. We saw some good riding and some not so good riding. I was impreseed by the British silver medalist, Laura Bechtolscheimer. Edward Gal won the gold and Steffan Peters won the bronze. For dinner the four of us went to Jean Farris winery hand had a delicious dinner with some wonderful wines!

Thursday morning we worked Gran Casso again and then headed to the convention center for the International Equestrian Festival. We had a lot of fun shopping and watching the demos. We explored the events dowtown and then went to a restaurant called Portofinos for dinner with a few clients of mine; Amy Denny, Dawn Dugan, Katie Hadden and Martha Murgia.

Friday morning we worked Gran Casso again and then explored the horse park prior to the evening's freestyle. The Spanish rider on Fuego was the most fun ride of the night and received a standing ovation from the crowd! Moorland's Totilas had a lovely freestyle as well and again I was really impressed with Laura Bechtolscheimer. In my opinion, the gold medal could have gone either way. Steffan Peters and Ravel won the bronze medal again. It was a very enjoyable evening and I'm very excited to get my freestyle with Gran Casso together this winter!!

Saturday was cross country day and what a beautiful day it was! Sunny and in the 70s it was a perfect day to walk around the cross country course at the horse park. The jumps were huge and it was really amazing to watch these atletic horses work! In the evening, Martin and I attended the Trakehner Foundations wine tasting and auction at the beautiful Spindletop Hall. We had a very enjoyable evening, it was nice to get dressed up!

Today we worked Gran Casso again. We are in Lexington until Tuesday when we will head to Batavia for the stallion testing. He is working extremely well and I'm excited about the test!! We had a really great time at the World Equestrian Game

We have been busy packing up and preparing Gran Casso for our big cross country trip over 1,000 miles from Coupland, TX to Lexington, KY. Martin and I will be attending the World Equestrian Games Dressage Competition Tuesday-Friday and cross country on Saturday. Gran Casso will be staying at a nearby farm so I can keep him fit before heading to Ohio on October 6 for the ISR/OLD 10 day stallion testing. He has been training very well and I feel confident that he is ready to perform!

I will try my best to keep this blog updated so keep checking back! :-)

Congratulations to Gran Casso for getting his certified breeding license from the ISR/OLD on August 25. He put in a great performance on the triangle, in the jump chute and under saddle. He scored 221 points and will be headed to the 10 day stallion test in Batavia, OH this October!

Gran Casso's first attempt at first level test 4 earned him two blue ribbons and SWDC qualification. He was a very good boy and is now qualified for SWDC & USDF Regional Champions at Training level and SWDC at first level.

At the RPSI Inspection on August 30, Gran Casso's two foals out of pony mares, Gambol PSH & Gran Distinction both earned silver premium status and were entered into the German Riding Pony Foal Book!

Well, we were feeling pretty good around here for June and July, escaping last years 100+ degree temperatures. Unfortunately our luck didn't last and August is giving last summer a run for the money! We start early and end late around here and the horses seem to be dealing with the heat very well. The riding horses get to spend the days in their nice big stalls under the fans.

In July,  I rode both Waren and Gran Casso with Christian Bachinger of the Spanish Riding School. We have a very busy fall coming up and the boys have been in pretty heavy training. Waren continues to gain strength that he will need for his big move to Prix St. Georges next year! He is already qualified for the Region 9 Championships & SWDC at training level and we will also be putting together a freestyle for him for next year at 4th level. Gran Casso will move up to first level at the San Antonio show in a few weeks and the goal is to try to get him qualified for Region 9 Championships/SWDC at first level in addition to his previous training level qualifications. On August 25, he will be presented to the ISR/OLD for approval.

We hope everybody is handling this heat ok and hopefully September will bring cooler temperatures!!

Gran Casso put in a stellar performance at his latest horse show, the HDS Summer Shows I&II. On Saturday, he scored an impressive 73.9% at training 2 and a 74% at training 4. He is now qualified for both SWDC & GAIG/USDF Championships at Training Level. He was also Summer Show I National Levels Open Reserve Champion. We also were entered in the Adult Team Competition and won Champion of our division. Sunday was a great day as well with Gran Casso scoring a 69% at Training 2 and a 68% at Training 4. We are so proud of him!!!

I am also very proud of my training horses, Willa-B ("Willo") a hanoverian mare by Wendepunkt. She has been in training for several months now. She has been coming back from a suspensory injury and is doing wonderfully in  her training. She is owned by Dawn Dugan of Connecticut. Willo scored a 71% in her first ever class at her first ever show! Her other performances were also super with a 69%, tying with Gran Casso for first place in training 2! She also scored two 65%. The other training horse I showed was Feyock, an imported Westfalen gelding owned by Amy Denny of Timber Ghost Stables. Feyock is a very talented horse and after only two months in training after a couple of years hiatus, he put in a great showing at first level, earning two 65.5%, a 67% and a 68%! He is now qualified for Southwest Dressage Championships at first level and he also earned the Westfalen High Point Award at HDS Summer Show I!

Our first foal of the year has arrived! Santana (Sonntagskind x EM Atlanta) is a chestnut colt born around 1:40am Thursday April 15. He shares the exact same markings as his big brother, Bacarro. Little Santana is doing great and is already cantering around the stall. Mom and baby are doing fine. EM Atlanta will be bred to jumper stallion Landfriese II on her 30 day heat for a 2011 foal.

Our second foal, Florestern, arrived about 7:45pm on 4/21. He is a bay colt with three socks. He is the first foal by Furst Klasse (Florestan I/Donnerhall/Rubinstein I) and we couldn't be more impressed. He has a lot of presence and looks like he will make a great sporthorse. Lugana will be bred back to Furst Klasse for a repeat of this fabulous colt!

Our final foal of the year, Glorianna, was born mid-day on 5/3. She is our only Gran Casso foal of the year and is out of our maiden Rainbow mare, Reigner. This chestnut filly is quite a looker with lots of refinement, nice conformation and a beautiful face. She also looks like she will be quite tall! We are so impressed with this filly, that Reigner will be bred back to Gran Casso this June.

More News:
Delaney is confirmed in foal to Freestyle!! We are so thrilled with how our 2008 Freestyle/Delaney colt, Freedance, is maturing, that we decided we would like to repeat the cross!

This past weekend was the HDS Spring Show and Gran Casso and Waren did not disappoint! Gran Casso earned a 67.5% and a 69.9% at Training 4 and a very impressive 79.9% in Materiale. He is now qualified for SWDC at Training Level and needs one more score to qualify for USDF/GAIG Region 9 Championships at Training Level. Warendorf had a great show as well. Over the weekend he qualified for SWDC and USDF/GAIG Championships at Third Level. He also made is fourth level debut and got the first score towards our USDF Silver Medal!

On March 13, Gran Casso's second foal of the year was born in Ohio. Wendy Sieg is the new owner of a handsome chestnut colt!

This past weekend, Gran Casso and I attended the ADA Spring Shows. He behaved like a perfect gentleman and is doing better every time he gets out to the show. He scored in the 60's in all of his classes, and earned a 67.5% on training 2. He is training very well at home and we are excited about the future spring shows. We will be headed to Katy on April 23-25 for the HDS Spring Classic. Gran Casso will be competing in materiale, training level and the four year old test. Warendorf will be competing at third level and will make his fourth level debut!

Gran Casso's first colt has arrived! Congrats to Christine Richards on the arrival of her healthy new addition, Desmond! Desmond is out of a 14H Paint/TB Mare and looks a lot like our outstanding filly, Jypsy Rose. Gran Casso really stamps them!  You can see photo's on Gran Casso's offspring pages.
